A couple of for-profit clothing donation bins that popped up along 4th Avenue — at the corners of Sackett and Degraw — have been flagged for removal by the Department of Sanitation. Notices to remove the bins were affixed to both on November 16, and the owners of them have 30 days to cart them off, otherwise Sanitation will.

Bins like these ones have been spreading all over Brooklyn, with several spotted over the past few months in South Slope and Ditmas Park, which have led to messy sidewalks and even a small fire.

Sanitation explains on their website that, “under Local Law No. 31 of 2007, the placement of publicly accessible collection bins on New York City property or property maintained by New York City, or on any public sidewalk or roadway is illegal,” and concerned residents are invited to submit a form requesting their removal.
