Salt Those Sidewalks & Avoid Tickets From Sanitation Today
Neighbor Brenda Becker just wrote in, wanting to make sure homeowners take care of their slippery sidewalk situations before Sanitation takes care of them–with a fine. She says:
A Dept of Sanitation squad car was creeping down Albemarle and up Marlborough towards Church Avenue this morning at 10:30am, and a uniformed guy was taking digital pictures of sidewalks (and porches–for the address, I guess).
I asked him why and he said they were ticketing for people who “hadn’t cleared the ice,” showing me a stretch of sidewalk with a thin layer of packed slush remaining on it.
“Guess they’re trying to make some money before it melts today,” Brenda concludes.
It seems Sanitation is back in the swing of things this week, having resumed regular refuse pickup as well as issuing tickets post-storm.
If you’ve got even a sliver of ice in front of your house this morning, keep yourself and neighbors safe and ticket-free by following NYC’s snow and ice removal rules. If you are unable to use salt or another ice melter, then ashes, sand, sawdust, or a similar material may be an appropriate substitute. And pedestrians, take care getting around!
