Rynn Berry, Jogger Who Collapsed In Prospect Park, Has Died

We’re sad to hear that Rynn Berry, the 68-year-old man who collapsed while jogging in Prospect Park on New Year’s Eve, passed away not long after being identified by his half-brother following a wide-reaching effort to figure out who he was.

A health-conscious man who lived in Prospect Heights, he was known for books on vegetarianism and veganism, and his impact in that world can be seen by the response to his passing on Twitter.

“I’m heartbroken to learn that Rynn Berry died,” wrote Fran Costigan, an expert on vegan desserts. “He was a gentle soul whose life touched so many.”

“Rest in peace, Rynn Berry, vegan scholar, historian, activist, and warm, gentle spirit,” tweeted Tracye McQuirter, author of By Any Greens Necessary. ”I’ll miss you.”

The New York Times and DNAinfo both have lovely remembrances of him, with more thoughts from friends and colleagues. Our deepest condolences to all who knew him.
