Rossman Farms: Worth the Trip?
When you’re shopping for fruits and vegetables, we’ve got a couple of supermarkets, smaller grocery stores, and bodegas to cover most of the bases. But what if you want to stock up on bargain priced avocados at 3am? Your best bet nearby may be Rossman Farms at 770 3rd Ave between 25th and 26th Streets.
Serious Eats recently got a behind-the-scenes tour of the enormous 24-hour grocer, which has everything from fruits and vegetables to cheese, fish, and dry goods. One of the interesting ways they keep prices low:
They produce their own line of fruits and vegetables on farms in Mexico and the Dominican Republic and package them under their Mama Mia label.
Sitting under the BQE, it might be a bit off the beaten track for some, but it can be worth the trip. If you have a car, parking is relatively easy, and the checkout lines move pretty quickly.
If you shop there, are there any other tips worth noting? Like when’s the best time to shop, or what are some hidden gems you recently discovered there?
