Rock ‘N Roll Half Marathon Running Through Neighborhood Saturday
The inaugural Brooklyn Rock ‘n Roll Half Marathon happening Saturday morning will have over 17,000 runners participating from all over the world. Race officials announced on Thursday that it would be the largest half-marathon ever in the United States and it’s coming through our neighborhood.
The race will start in Grand Army Plaza and then head east along Eastern Parkway turning around at Albany Avenue then heading south along Flatbush and Ocean Avenues to Parkside Avenue, where runners will head east to Ocean Parkway, then south on Ocean Parkway turning around near Avenue M And finally finishing inside Prospect Park.
Rock ‘n Roll marathons are also well-known for the live music stops posted along the race route. Based on information provided by Rock ‘n Roll, there will be a stage at Park Circle and at Ocean Parkway and Newkirk Avenue.
The following streets in our neighborhood will be closed for the race on Saturday from 7 am to 11 am:
- Ocean Avenue between Flatbush Avenue and Parkside Avenue
- Parkside Avenue between Ocean Avenue and Park Circle
- Park Circle between South Lake Drive and Ocean Parkway Entrance Ramp
- Ocean Parkway between Ocean Parkway Entrance Ramp and Avenue M
The race will also affect several bus routes in the area, including:
- B8 – No service on 18th Avenue between Coney Island Avenue and East 3rd Street, bus will operate in two sections.
- B68 – Rerouted between Bartel Pritchard Square and Caton Avenue
- B35 – Rerouted from Church Avenue between Coney Island Avenue and McDonald Avenue
