Road Rage, A Slashing & More Recent Crimes In Kensington

66th Precinct CompStat 7/27/14


The 66th Precinct’s weekly CompStat report again shows a preponderance of grand larcenies, up 44.8% in the past 28 days; up 33.3% in the past seven. Fortunately, only one of those occurred in Kensington. For the moment, all the 0ther categories are trending down. Maybe crime takes a holiday as we hunker down for August. Let’s hope so. We all could use a vacation — and some good beach weather!

This report only covers felony crimes provided to us by the 66th Precinct that occurred in Kensington’s two police sectors, G and K, for Tuesday, July 22 to Tuesday, July 29. Sector G includes Beverley Road to Avenue F, and 37th Street to Coney Island Avenue; Sector K covers Caton Avenue to Beverley Road and 37th Street to Coney Island Avenue. The entire 66th Precinct is parceled into 13 sectors, lettered A-J.

ROBBERY

Sunday, July 27, 5:05pm
Ocean Parkway & Beverley Road
In a road-rage dispute with a man and woman driving an SUV, a woman, 31, got out of her car to take photos of her opponent’s license plate with her Apple iPhone 4S. To prevent this, police say the woman in the SUV jumped out and grabbed the cell phone from the victim’s hand and then got back in her SUV. The victim reached into the SUV to take back her cell phone, but was dragged approximately 50 feet as the SUV drove off. She was left with minor scrapes and bruises to the right side of her body. The value of stolen iPhone was $200.

FELONY ASSAULT

Caton Avenue & East 5th Street
A 21-year-old man told police he was left in pain when he was surrounded by three people who slashed him on the right side of his face and his left forearm. He said he had been walking down East 5th Street on his way home from the bar, but he could not say what weapon they used or offer a description of his attackers.

A witness told police he saw a young man’s Arrow Electric bike, worth $1,420, stolen while its owner went into a store. According to the witness, the perps cut the bike’s chain and lock and put it inside their vehicle.
