BUSHWICK – The RiseBoro Community Partnership will be able to bring individualized health care to the people utilizing the organization’s housing, community, and senior centers thanks to a grant of $780,000 awarded to the community group this week.

RiseBoro will use the grant to hire community health workers to teach local residents about quality nutrition, healthy lifestyles and navigating the healthcare system.

“Access to healthy food, an active lifestyle, and understanding the healthcare systems are
essential resources to help communities thrive,” said Scott Short, RiseBoro’s CEO. “With our dedicated staff and an inclusive approach, we look forward to equipping every individual with health resources that enable them to become agents of change in their lives and communities.”

Recently, the organization installed a community farm at their Youth Center in Bushwick. The project, undertaken in conjunction with Rebuilding Together NYC, will bring fresh vegetables to community members and teach both environmental stewardship and healthy eating habits to local youth.

The grant money for this latest project, the Wellness Rising Initiative, came from the OneCity Health Innovation Fund, and was one of largest allocations given to a community partner from the organizations $5 million fund.
