Ring In 2018 At “One Brooklyn” New Year’s Eve Celebrations At Coney Island And Prospect Park

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams announced today plans for two New Year’s Eve celebrations taking place concurrently at Coney Island and Prospect Park.

Prospect Park Alliance

This is the fourth year for the joint celebrations, giving Brooklyn residents greater access to free family-friendly festivities. This year’s Coney Island event, hosted in partnership with the Alliance for Coney Island at Steeplechase Plaza, will complement the annual fireworks and festivities held in Grand Army Plaza, staged in partnership with the Prospect Park Alliance.

Both celebrations will feature fireworks and live entertainment. Coney Island will countdown to the new year with a digital “burst” from the Parachute Jump, while Prospect Park’s annual NYE event will feature music from Brooklyn’s Quintessential Playlist at Grand Army Plaza, leading up to “Brooklyn’s Most Spectacular Fireworks Display.” The event, now in its 38th year, attracts tens of thousands of revelers to Prospect Park, making it one of the city’s most popular celebrations.

“For family-friendly New Year’s Eve fun, there’s nowhere better to be on the calendar’s biggest night than Brooklyn, the center of the universe,” Adams said in a statement. “Tens of thousands of revelers from our borough and beyond will be celebrating at two of our city’s most iconic locations, Coney Island and Prospect Park, with plenty of cheer to go around.”

More than 15,000 visitors attended the Coney Island NYE festivities last year. Adding to the fun at this year’s celebration, Adams announced that the Abe Stark Skating Rink, B&B Carousell, Deno’s Wonder Wheel, Stop the Zombies 7D, and Thunderbolt Roller Coaster will be open and free of charge on December 31 beginning at 6pm.

The New York Aquarium will have special extended hours until 9:00pm and several Coney Island dining and entertainment venues will remain open for the event including Applebee’s, Coney Island Brewery, Coney Island USA, El Dorado Bumper Cars, Kitchen 21, Nathan’s Famous, Tom’s Restaurant, and White Castle.
