Restaurant Preparing To Open In Former Dare Books Space

33 Lafayette Avenue, which has been empty since the closure of Dare Books, may not be vacant for much longer. Work permits were filed with the Department of Buildings on November 21 to install a kitchen and bathrooms at the address, which is designated as an “eating & drinking” establishment.

The new tenant of the storefront, which is between St Felix Street and Ashland Place, is also seeking a license to serve beer and wine under the (not necessarily permanent) name “33.”

DOB permits say the space at 33 may “be used independendly [sic] or in conjunction with 35 Lafayette Avenue”–the current address of La Caye. We have reached out to La Caye to see whether the space is an expansion or a separate entity, and will update when we learn more.
