It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Michael Moussa, a young teen who has worked with the 72nd Precinct’s NYPD Explorer Program, passed away this Sunday, April 17, after a fight with a thalassemia, a form of cancer, requiring three bone marrow transplants and chemotherapy.

The 72nd Precinct announced the news on their Twitter page, adding a message for him: “We will #neverforget you!”

Family and friends have not commented on his passing, but a GoFundMe page set up by a family friend for medical expenses and related costs — presumably now including funeral costs — was set up a couple of months ago and has so far raised $1,525 of the $5,000 goal.

On the page, his mother, Mariam, wrote a message of thanks to everyone for their support and prayers.

If you would like to send a condolence card or flowers, Moussa’s funeral viewing is scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, April 20, from 2-5pm and 7-9pm at Andrew Torregrossa & Sons, at 1305 79th Street in Dyker Heights.

His funeral mass will be Thursday, April 21 at 10am at the St. George Coptic Orthodox Church at 1105 67th Street and he will rest in Staten Island’s Fredrick Douglas Cemetery.

We send condolences and prayers to Moussa and his family.
