Rent A “Sunny & Sweet 1-Bedroom” From Mayor De Blasio
Mayor Bill de Blasio is seeking a new tenant for his one-bedroom rental at 384 11th Street in Park Slope.
The Street Easy ad for the unit describes it as a “Sunny & Sweet 1 Bedroom In Private House, For Rent In Prime South Slope.”
The rental is located on the top floor of a two-story, two-family house and features a front porch, a “comfortable, sunfilled, and flexible layout,” as well as storage space and a shared washer and dryer in the basement. No pets and no smoking allowed.
The $1,825/month rent seems like a decent deal after a quick search on Rent Hop shows that one-bedrooms in this zip code tend to go for $2,000 and up.
The mayor got some flak in 2015 after he raised the rent on this apartment from $1,800 to $1,825 while he was lobbying for a rent freeze for NYC’s Rent Guidelines Board. Due to this building’s small size, it is not required to be a part of the state’s rent stabilization program, according to 6sqft.
De Blasio and his wife Chirlane McCray purchased the quaint two-family house in June 2004 for $612,500, according to Property Shark. The current market value of the building is more than $1.5 million.
