Reminder: Primary Day Is Tomorrow, September 10
Heads up, neighbors! Primary Day is tomorrow, September 10, and we’ve compiled some information to make exercising your right to vote as easy as possible.
Remember, you are only eligible to vote tomorrow if you are a registered member of a party holding a primary. For the general election on November 3, all registered voters are eligible.
Here’s a list of the candidates on the ballot, organized by borough. It’s looking pretty GOP-heavy in tomorrow’s Brooklyn primaries, so you Dems in Southern Brooklyn may want to sit this one out. However, there is a Democratic judicial seat up for grabs in Brooklyn’s Municipal Court District 6 — which includes Ditmas Park, Kensington and parts of South Slope — which will hopefully bring a few left-leaning Northern Brooklynites out to the polls.
A few more tips for tomorrow:
- Polls are open from 6am to 9pm. You can find where you should vote, as well as see a sample ballot, here.
- If you need further help locating your polling place, you can call the city’s voter phone bank at 866-VOTE-NYC.
- The city Campaign Finance Board also has a good resource page, detailing how and where to vote, who your candidates are, district maps and more.
- The city Board of Elections has said that polling places should be accessible to handicapped voters, but if you find barriers to voting, you can call the Brooklyn Board of Elections at (718) 797-8800.
- Additionally, state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s office will operate a statewide election day hotline, where you can speak with attorneys about problems at the polls. The hotline will be open until the polls close at 9pm. Schneiderman is encouraging voters to report issues or problems at polls by calling (800) 771-7755 or emailing civil.rights@ag.ny.gov at any time until 9pm.
Finally, if you encounter any issues at the polls, you can always let us know in the comments below or by emailing editor@sheepsheadbites.com.
