Do you have concerns or questions about the new traffic plan on Sheepshead Bay Road? Bring them up Tuesday night when representatives from DOT and MTA come to the Sheepshead Bay-Plumb Beach Civic Association meeting Tuesday night.

Many neighborhood leaders said they were surprised when the city sprang its controversial traffic reconfiguration plan on the community last week. The DOT scattered orange cones around the subway station to turn part of Sheepshead Bay Road into a one-way and block cars from entering East 15th Street and Jerome Slip. The MTA also moved the B36 bus stop to Avenue Z.

The DOT introduced the proposal last year, but it was thought dead after the community board voted it down. However, the DOT moved quickly to implement the plan after reviving it in March. Several neighbors told us they were caught off guard when the project came to fruition last week.

A DOT spokesperson said the agency still has no timeline for when other aspects of the plan, such as pedestrian islands and a new taxi stand, will be introduced. Neighbors with thoughts on the new plan or questions about its implementation are encouraged to attend Tuesday’s meeting.

The Sheepshead Bay-Plumb Beach Civic Association meeting begins at 7:45pm at Waterford on the Bay (2900 Bragg Street, near Emmons Avenue).
