Register Now for 2012 Fall Sports
Although spring baseball has only just begun, now is the time to register for fall sports. Competitive and non-competitive youth sports build team work and sportsmanship while athletic activity fabulously supplement academic rigor. Pick the sport that best fits your family’s lifestyle and enjoy weekends outside watching your budding athlete.
Keep in mind youth sports are volunteer driven. You can volunteer to coach! If you’re not up for leading a team, offer your coach support. Coach volunteers in the following organizations have some pre-season training. Still, parental involvement is key to running practice and games smoothly.
Summer Baseball/Softball
SFX Youth Sports summer baseball and softball league–including t-ball–runs July and August. If you have questions, contact the summer coordinator Carl Anderson.
Bonnie Youth Club tryouts are over, but experienced players are always welcome. Stop by the clubhouse on Church Ave for more info.
78th Precinct Youth Council’s Bulldogs continue through the summer and fall. If your athlete isn’t on the travel team, 78th PYC has summer baseball camp instead of a summer league.
Soccer
AYSO–Brooklyn’s go-to soccer organization–doesn’t say specifically that registration is open. If your child plays at a competitive level, keep checking their website.
Registration for SFX Youth Sports soccer opens May 21.
Tackle Football
Brooklyn Skyhawk registration opened in April. Registration forms can be downloaded from their website. Contact BKSkyhawk@aol.com for more information.
Brooklyn Titans have rolling registration. Practice is currently happening three days a week and new Titans are welcome to join. Former Harvard football player, Coach Bill, coaches many Ditmas Park youth.
Flag Football
Both SFX Youth Sports and 78th PYC offer NFL sponsored flag football as an alternative for parents concerned about injury risk in tackle football. Registration for both organizations is open. SFX and 78
PYC don’t compete against each other in the flag football league.
Golf
First come, first serve registration is open for SFX Youth Sports golf. Practice is Saturdays in September and October. Contact Jeremy Goell for more information.
