Red-Tailed Hawks Descend Upon Ditmas Park
Don’t worry if you missed Raptor Fest this year–you’ll probably get to see a bird of prey around the neighborhood soon. Neighbor Cara, who took these amazing photos on Friday, says:
Over the last couple days I’ve seen a few dead, picked apart squirrels in the neighborhood and this morning I found the culprit having breakfast on the next fire escape on Stratford Road. Looks like we have a Red-tailed Hawk in the neighborhood. I wonder if anyone else has spotted him!
Luckily our camera was charged. I thought he might get spooked when we opened the window to take the pictures, but he didn’t care at all–just kept right on eating!
As it turns out, at least two other locals have seen hawks hanging around lately. Papacruz caught this pair canoodling at the Parade Ground…
… and our own Mary Bakija snapped one high in the sky above Church not long ago.
Have you caught any good avian action recently? Send photos to editor@ditmasparkcorner.com, and we’ll add them to the post.
