Recycle Your Old Electronics On 5th Avenue This Sunday

Now that you can no longer leave electronics curbside for collection, you’ll need to figure out alternative ways to get rid of that ancient tube television. One option: an upcoming e-waste recycling event from the Lower East Side Ecology Center, as part of the Spring Civic Sweep from the Park Slope Civic Council.

This Sunday, April 26 from 10am-4pm, you can drop off both working and non-working electronics at J.J. Byrne Playground, 5th Avenue between 3rd and 4th Streets, and LES Ecology will take it off your hands for either refurbishing or recycling.

Here’s what they’ll accept:

• Computers (laptops & desktops, servers, mainframes)
• Monitors
• Printers, scanners, fax-machines, copiers
• Network devices (routers, hubs, modems, etc.)
• Peripherals (keyboards, mice, cables, cords, chargers, etc.)
• Tablets and e-readers
• Components (hard drives, CD-ROMs, circuit boards, power supplies, etc.)
• TVs, VCRs, DVRs, and DVD players
• Digital converter boxes, cable/satellite receivers
• Portable music players
• Audio-visual equipment
• Video-games
• Cell phones, pagers, PDAs
• Telecommunication (phones, answering machines, etc.)

They’ll also take batteries, but ask that alkaline and rechargeable batteries are separated, with the terminals of the rechargeable batteries taped up. They cannot accept home appliances such as microwaves, refrigerators, or air conditioners.
