Question Of The Day: Why No Elevator At 4th Ave/9th Street?

On any given day, Slope subway riders trudge up and down a whole lot of stairs. Have you ever stopped to wonder, though, how many steps you’re actually taking?

Faggotgirl, a ridiculously cute “superhero action figure” from Dykeumentary founder Krissy Mahan, recently counted all of the steps between the 4th Avenue/9th Street R train, and the connecting F platform.

Turns out that there are 120 steps, and without an elevator or escalator, this makes it difficult, if not impossible, for some to use this particular station.

Despite the recent upgrades at the station, we’re still not getting an elevator or an escalator, and the Slope’s smallest accessibility activist wants to know why.
