We have great news! After two and a half years of organizing, planning and negotiating, neighbors are about to debut Q Gardens, a community green space located on E. 18th Street, just behind the Church Avenue subway station.

Neighbor Anne Schoeneborn, who has helped to spearhead efforts to create the garden, let us know that the Q Gardens group just signed a lease with the MTA, via the Brooklyn Queens Land Trust – which allows them to finally open the space up to the public.

On Saturday, March 28, from 12-4pm, the Q Gardens folk are inviting anyone and everyone to join them as they hold their inaugural cleanup event, when they’ll be clearing the many layers of trash and debris from the lot that has long been an eyesore in the area. Plus, they plan on getting a compost system up and running that day.

“We will have regular compost hours starting very soon, and hope that community members will bring their compost by and maybe even consider becoming a compost monitor!” Anne wrote to us.

If you’d like to contact the neighbors behind Q Gardens, you can email qgardensinfo@gmail.com, as well as visit their Facebook page and website.
