Protests, Forums, Trainings & More Resistance Events In Brooklyn

In addition to scores of rallies in Manhattan, events dedicated to resisting Trump’s executive order barring refugees from entering the United States are popping up throughout Brooklyn, led by local organizations, citizen groups, elected officials, parents, and more. Stay involved with global politics at the local level with these events throughout the month.

Park Slope: Activist Mondays at Hootenanny Art House Meeting
When: Mondays beginning January 30, sessions at 3:30 to 4:30pm and 6:00-7:00pm
Where: 428 15th Street
What: Join Activist Coffee Hour and Activist Happy Hour (BYOB) at the Hootenanny Art House. “Come by for 10 minutes, do the action, or you can stay for the hour, relax and connect.” The actions include writing follow-up postcards to send to Senators and other action opportunities. Park Slope/Prospect Heights: What The F*ck, Chuck? Demonstration
When: Tuesday, January 31 from 6pm to 8pm.
Where: Grand Army Plaza to 9 Prospect Park West
What: Join activists and concerned citizens at a rally to demand that Chuck Schumer stand firm against Trump’s cabinet nominees. Families welcome. Hosted by Indivisible Ninth and #ResistTrumpTuesdays

Ditmas Park: Parents Rally at PS 217
When: Mornings between 7:30am and 8am.
Where: PS 217
What: Local parents are planning rallies during school drop-off times to support the families at this multi-cultural school, which boasts more than 1200 students who speak at least 32 languages.

Kensington: Bystander Intervention Training
When: Thursday, February 2 from 7pm to 9pm.
Where: PS 130 Library at 713 Caton Avenue
What: Empower yourself and your neighbors to stay safe in the face of hate crimes. Learn how to safely intervene and de-escalate a potentially dangerous situation, led by the Arab American Association of New York and Occupy Kensington.

Park Slope: Get Organized Brooklyn: Full Group Meetings
When: Mondays, February 6 and February 27 at 6:30pm
Where: Congregation Beth Elohim, 274 Garfield Place at 8th Avenue
What: Join a series of #GetOrganizedBK meetings led by City Council Member Brad Lander. The meeting will begin with a panel discussion and program, followed up a breakout session with working groups to continue organizing and planning.

Flatbush/Ditmas Park: State of Immigration State of Emergency: What Changes Might Occur Under President Trump & How to Prepare
When: February, 8 from 6:00 to 8:30pm
Where: Flatbush YMCA, 1401 Flatbush Avenue between Farragut Road and Foster Avenue
What: Join City Council Member Jumaane D. Williams, Senator Kevin S. Parker, Assembly Member Rodneyse Bichotte, and District Leader Josue Pierre for an information session for Caribbean immigrants on family-based citizenship petitions, DACA/DAPA asylum filing, fee changes, Temporary Protected Status (TPS), and deportation.

JFK: Arabic and Farsi translators and Lawyers needed at JFK
When: ASAP
Where: JFK Airport terminal 4
