Prospect Park Still Closed, But Walk-a-Thon Still On & Will Be Fundraiser

Prospect Park, like all city parks, remains closed, but details about the damage Hurricane Sandy wrought have started to filter in.

Emily Lloyd, Prospect Park Administrator and President of the Prospect Park Alliance, issued an update. She described damage to the park as “widespread and significant.” Hundreds of trees have been lost. Paths and roads are blocked. Light posts are down.

She expects the Park will receive FEMA emergency funds, but that those funds will not cover all needed repairs. The previously scheduled 5K Walk-A-Thon (and race-a-thon), still planned for this Saturday, November 3, will now dedicate all proceeds to restoration and repair.

In addition to walking, running, or sponsoring a walk-a-thon participant, those wishing to help the park can volunteer or, of course, contribute.
