Prospect Park Celebrates 150th Anniversary With Tree Planting And ESB Lighting

PROSPECT PARK – Though Prospect Park has been celebrating its 150th anniversary all year, today—October 19, marks the actual day the Park officially debuted in 1867!

To commemorate the day, the Prospect Park Alliance hosted a celebration this morning with  a birthday cake and tree-planting in the Vale of Cashmere. This area of the Park was recently cleared of invasive species and harmful ground cover by the beloved, hardworking Prospect Park Goats. The space will be planted with more than 20,000 native trees, plants, and shrubs.

Later this evening at 6pm, the Empire State Building will light up green in celebration of Prospect Park’s anniversary! The Prospect Park Alliance will host a viewing party at Manhattan’s 230 Fifth rooftop bar with happy hour drink and food specials from 5pm to 7pm. Take a selfie and share it on social media with the tag #prospectpark150.

Happy anniversary Prospect Park!
