President Obama Honors Council Member Lander

President Obama Honors Council Member Lander
Brad Lander at CB12 meeting

Congratulations to our Council Member Brad Lander, who is being honored by President Obama at the White House today for the “Champions of Change” ceremony, which celebrates people and groups that positively impact their communities.

Lander is being honored for his efforts with participatory budgeting, which has given his constituents a chance to nominate and vote on projects in the district that they feel are more deserving of funding for the past two years.

On his blog today, Lander made sure to note that he’s not the only one responsible for the success of this program, and thanked those who aren’t being recognized today, but who have put in a lot of work to help out our district.

“So I want to make sure to recognize at least a few of the real ‘champions of change,’” he wrote, “the volunteers, community leaders, and staff who have made participatory budgeting possible and done the patient work of making it successful in New York City over the past two years.”
