A 34-year-old man is in the hospital after being shot by police during a chase along Nassau Street, near Bridge Street, shortly before 1am on Saturday, March 7. He is in stable condition and, according to the NYPD, is in police custody with charges pending for wielding a loaded gun.

A loaded Star Eibar .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun was reportedly found by police on the suspect.

According to police, the confrontation occurred when someone called in a report at 12:53am of an armed male outside 189 Bridge Street, which is in the 84th Precinct. Two uniformed officers from the 77th Precinct responded and followed the man along Nassau, at which point he reportedly pulled out his gun “from his waistband area and refused directives to drop the weapon.”

The two officers discharged their service weapons a total of four times, striking the suspect once in the lower torso and grazing him in the left arm.
EMS responded to the location and transported the suspect to Kings County Hospital where he remains in stable condition, in police custody with charges pending.
The two officers were removed to Methodist Hospital for treatment of tinnitus. The investigation is ongoing.
