Police Investigating Two Fatalities In Bed-Stuy Over Holiday Weekend

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT – The holiday weekend was marred by the deaths of two men in Bed-Stuy on Sunday, September 3.

Police report that at approximately 9am on Sunday, they responded to a call regarding an unconscious man on the rooftop of 376 Marcus Garvey Boulevard (between Jefferson Avenue and Hancock Street) where they discovered 49-year-old Ronald Frazier unresponsive with injuries to his face.

When EMS responded, they pronounced Frazier dead at the scene.

Frazier lived nearby on Halsey Street. A police spokesperson says they are currently investigating why Frazier was at the location and whether he had fallen, jumped, or was pushed.

A second incident occurred at approximately 8:50pm on Sunday in front of 50 Herkimer Place where police found 49-year-old David Dottin unconscious, with a gunshot wound to his head.

EMS transported Dottin to Kings County Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The victim had been celebrating the holiday weekend with family and friends on Herkimer Place, near the intersection of Nostrand and Atlantic Avenues, when he was shot, according to the New York Post. A suspect shot into the crowd “randomly with a 9mm pistol” before fleeing toward Perry Place, the paper says.

“That’s when I heard the gun shot,” Dason Dottin, one of the victim’s two sons said. “His body moved. I thought he flinched. Then he fell down. I thought he was going to get back up, but then I saw blood,” the 16-year-old told the Post.

Police say they are investigating whether Dottin, who lived on Dean Street at the border of Crown Heights, was the intended target.

No arrests have been made yet and the investigation is ongoing.
