Police Blotter: (Fashion) Plates, A Stolen Cycle & One Unsatisfied Customer

70th precinct compstat

The latest CompStat report from the 70th Precinct shows felony assault, grand larceny, and petit larceny as the crimes with the largest percentage increases since last year, while robbery and burglary have seen a significant drop in the same period of time.

This week’s police blotter uses reports from the precinct including a bike theft, an attempted shoplifting, a license plate gone mysteriously missing, and a guy who might have fared better at Quiznos.

Fashion flop

A 27-year-old woman looking to update her fall wardrobe was caught September 2 with $210 worth of stolen merchandise from the Flatbush Junction Target store, according to police. Items recovered from her haul included two blouses, three pairs of leggings, one T-shirt, five dresses, a pair of flip flops, a cardigan, and hair barrettes. Cops say the bargain shopper was arrested and charged with petit larceny.

Another pricey trip to the doctor

A neighbor’s bike was stolen from a Cortelyou Road doctor’s office on September 3. According to the September 11 report, the woman reported leaving her $400 purple cycle inside of the building from 10am-5:30pm, but it was gone when she returned. The bike is still missing, cops say, and no arrests have been made.

Screw that

A 66-year-old Philadelphia man visiting family in the neighborhood returned to his car on Parade Place at about 3pm on August 29 and found his rear plate missing, according to the 70th. Police say he told them the plate was screwed on correctly, and believes it was stolen. The plate has not been recovered, and no arrests have been made.

“There’s a toasting tax?!”

Cops don’t say whether it was the rubbery turkey or the squishy lettuce that set him off, but an unreasonable sandwich-loving man (no, not that one) was arrested after kicking the glass out of a door at a Flatbush Avenue Subway on September 12. Police say they charged the frustrated foodie, 33, with criminal mischief after his foot left a whole lot more than $5 worth of damage.
