Police Arrested Man For Burglary At Am Thai On Church Avenue

A 28-year-old man was arrested Friday afternoon for allegedly illegally entering Am Thai’s (1003 Church Avenue) cellar and going through the refrigerator, police told us.

According to DCPI, the man arrested, Rashan Foster, allegedly asked someone at the restaurant to use a cell phone, after which he allegedly went into the cellar and was rooting through the fridge before being nabbed by police. Foster has been charged with burglary, criminal trespassing, and possession of marijuana, police said.

A neighbor who was at Am Thai while the arrest was happening wrote to us:

I was at Am Thai on Friday… when the proprietor rushed outside because she saw someone going into her cellar. There were already police at Lark next door and they immediately rushed over. Pretty soon there were about 8 uniformed and plain-clothes cops. Eventually they apprehended the man and took him away in a police van. Apparently they had instructed the business owner to tell everyone who came in with a hood up to put it down. One person was instructed to do so while I was eating.

The arrest follows a series of crimes at local businesses, including armed robberies at Lark Café, Ox Cart Tavern, a Church Avenue deli, and Mimi’s Hummus.
