Playtime In Park Slope: Upcoming Children’s Events

Looking for something fun to do with the whole family this week? From a story about how much dragons love tacos, to an opportunity to plant some potatoes, to a celebration of fleece, there are a lot of great kid-friendly events coming up in our area. See the full details below!

Babies & Books
When: Wednesday, May 20, 10am
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Kids ages birth to 18 months and their guardians can enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes.
How much: Free, but you must pick up a ticket the morning of the program at the Children’s reference desk.

Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, May 20, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score your ticket.

Our Garden Club
When: Wednesday, May 20, 4:30pm
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Kids with and without disabilities can plant seeds, read stories, sing, and take home flowers.
How much: Free!

Nature Exploration
When: Thursdays & Fridays, 12-4pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Families can enjoy a variety of activities, from games for bird nerds to Citizen Science projects to a chance to meet a resident snake.
How much: Free!

Library Movie Time
When: Thursday, May 21, 3pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Kids and their grownups are invited to the library for an afternoon screening of Disney’s Maleficent. Showtime is at 3pm, and the movie runs 97 minutes.
How much: Free!

Ezra Jack Keats Bedtime Stories
When: Thursday, May 21, 7pm
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Librarians will read a book aloud to children ages 3-7 and lead singing, rhyming, and playing activities related to the themes and images of the book. At the end of each session, every child is given a free copy of one of Keats’ books to keep.
How much: Free!

Fleet Week Storytime
When: Friday, May 22, 10am
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: A uniformed service member will read a story aloud to kids up to age five in this celebration of Fleet Week, the annual event that gives New Yorkers the chance to meet sailors, marines, and coast guardsmen.
How much: Free!

Explore & Create
When: Friday, May 22, 3:30pm
Where: Pacific Library, 25 4th Avenue
What: Roll up your sleeves and join the kids in some arts and crafts!
How much: Free!

Nature Exploration
When: Saturdays & Sundays, 10am-1pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Much like on the weekdays, families can enjoy a variety of activities, including bird watching, nature-based projects, and more.
How much: Free!

Pop-Up Audubon
When: Saturdays & Sundays, 11am-4pm
Where: Eastwood, Prospect Park
What: This month, through hikes, birding tours, and more, families will get to know a thing or two about the wonderful warblers that visit the park at this time of year.
How much: Free!

Pop-Up Audubon II
When: Saturdays & Sundays, 11am-4pm
Where: Peninsula, Prospect Park
What: This month, you’ll get to monitor the development of plants that supply food and shelter for birds in Prospect Park through a range of activities.
How much: Free!

Dragons Love Tacos Storytime
When: Saturday, May 23, 2pm
Where: Barnes & Noble, 267 7th Avenue
What: If you need to lure a bunch of dragons to your party, obviously you make tacos — and lots of them! — as this story by Adam Rubin will responsibly teach kids.
How much: Free!

Fleece Fun
When: Saturday, May 23 & Sunday, May 24, 2-4pm
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: See how wool was used on a Flatbush farm! Kids will be able to brush the wool with carding paddles, spin yarn using a drop spindle, and even make a felt ball to take home with them.
How much: $3 suggested donation.

Nature Exploration
When: Monday, May 25, 12-4pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: If you’re headed to the park this Memorial Day, you and the kids can can enjoy a variety of activities, including learning how to protect trees, meeting some of the park’s critters, and more.
How much: Free!

Potato Planting
When: Monday, May 25, 12-4pm
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: Kids can get a taste of what life was like on a Flatbush farm in the spring way back when, as they help plant the annual potato crop. Then grab a potato sack and race against your family!
How much: $3 suggested donation.

Story Play
When: Tuesday, May 26, 2:15pm
Where: Pacific Library, 25 4th Avenue
What: Hear stories and nursery rhymes, and learn baby games to entertain your little one.

Stomp, Clap, And Sing With Morgan Taylor
