Playtime In Park Slope: Upcoming Children’s Events
Looking for something fun to do with the whole family this week? From an old timey baseball game to a big Brooklyn playdate, and from poetry to a performance designed for children on the autism spectrum, there are a lot of great kid-friendly events coming up in our area. See the full details below!
Big Brooklyn Playdate
When: Wednesday, April 29, 10:30am
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Babies and toddlers from birth to age 3 and their caregivers will enjoy fun games and activities that encourage early literacy through clever ideas that turn ordinary objects in your home into your child’s favorite toys.

Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, April 29, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score your ticket.
Kids Create: Poem In Your Pocket
When: Wednesday, April 29, 4:15pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: You might know that April is National Poetry Month, but did you know that April 30 is Poem In Your Pocket Day? Well, kids can hear some great poems while making a pocket in which to carry them the next day.

Nature Exploration
When: Thursdays & Fridays, 12-4pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Families can enjoy a variety of activities, from games for bird nerds to Citizen Science projects to a chance to meet a resident snake.

Story Craft
When: Thursday, April 30, 3:30pm
Where: Pacific Library, 25 4th Avenue
What: Kids up to age 5 are welcome to hear a story, then make a craft inspired by it.

Storytime
When: Friday, May 1, 10am
Where: Postmark Cafe, 326 6th Avenue
What: A weekly storytime has returned to Postmark! Stop by every Friday for some free fun.
How much: Free, but there’s only space for 20 kids, so arrive early to ensure your spot.
Spellbound Theatre’s “Before We Grew”
When: Saturday, May 2 & Sunday, May 3, 10am & 1pm
Where: The Old Stone House, 336 3rd Street
What: Designed for families with children on the autism spectrum, “Before We Grew” joins Hendrick as he explores the world of his own backyard, as an immersive collaboration that blends history, visual art, animation, puppetry, and performance, all staged in a large tent in the Great Room of The Old Stone House.

Nature Exploration
When: Saturdays & Sundays, 10am-1pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Much like on the weekdays, families can enjoy a variety of activities, including bird watching, nature-based projects, and more.

Pop-Up Audubon
When: Saturdays & Sundays, 10am-1pm
Where: Eastwood, Prospect Park
What: Families will learn the secrets of soil creatures, fungus, and decomposition through fun games and experiments.

Tour A Firehouse
When: Saturday, May 2, 11am-1pm & 1pm-3pm
Where: Any FDNY firehouse throughout New York City
What: Kids and adults alike will learn about fire safety, view demonstrations, explore FDNY careers, and more.

Pop-Up Audubon II
When: Saturdays & Sundays, 11am-4pm
Where: Peninsula, Prospect Park
What: This month, families can learn about birds and other animals that make their home near water, and add to the “nest” the park is weaving with natural materials.

Astrograss
When: Saturday, May 2, 1pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: A fun, interactive show with sing-alongs on more than half the songs, instrument demonstrations, and even a dance contest, with prizes for the winners. But really, everyone wins — the band will have a copy of their new coloring book for every child in attendance.

Reenactor Baseball
When: Saturday, May 2, 1pm
Where: The Old Stone House, 336 3rd Street
What: It’s a game of 1864 “base ball,” where the ball is pitched underhand and the uniforms are pretty terrific. Check it out as the Flemington Neshanock, New York Gothams, and the Bog Iron Boys take to the field at Washington Park.

Fleece Fun
When: Saturday, May 2 & Sunday, May 3, 2-4pm
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: See how wool was used on a Flatbush farm! Kids will be able to brush the wool with carding paddles, spin yarn using a drop spindle, and even make a felt ball to take home with them.
How much: $3 suggested donation.
