Playtime In Park Slope: Upcoming Children’s Events
Looking for something fun to do with the whole family this week? From a bedtime story with a free book to take home, to a chance to plant some seeds and watch them grow, to a bug-tastic musical, there are a lot of great kid-friendly events coming up in our area. See the full details below!
Babies & Books
When: Wednesday, April 15, 10am
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Kids ages birth to 18 months and their guardians can enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes.
How much: Free, but you must pick up a ticket the morning of the program at the Children’s reference desk.
Nature Exploration
When: Thursdays & Fridays, 12-4pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Families can enjoy a variety of activities, from games for bird nerds to Citizen Science projects to a chance to meet a resident snake.
How much: Free!
Story Craft
When: Thursday, April 16, 3:30pm
Where: Pacific Library, 25 4th Avenue
What: Kids up to age 5 are welcome to hear a story, then make a craft inspired by it.
How much: Free!
Ezra Jack Keats Bedtime Stories
When: Thursday, April 16, 7pm
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Librarians will read a book aloud to children ages 3-7 and lead singing, rhyming, and playing activities related to the themes and images of the book. At the end of each session, every child is given a free copy of one of Keats’ books to keep.
How much: Free!
Storytime
When: Friday, April 17, 10am
Where: Postmark Cafe, 326 6th Avenue
What: A weekly storytime has returned to Postmark! Stop by every Friday for some free fun.
How much: Free, but there’s only space for 20 kids, so arrive early to ensure your spot.
Despicable Me 2
When: Friday, April 17, 3:30pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: If you saw the first one at the library last week, it’s time for the the follow up, with Gru and the girls (and the Minions) tracking down a new criminal mastermind.

Nature Exploration
When: Saturdays & Sundays, 10am-1pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Much like on the weekdays, families can enjoy a variety of activities, including bird watching, nature-based projects, and more.

Pop-Up Audubon
When: Saturdays & Sundays, 10am-1pm
Where: Eastwood, Prospect Park
What: Families will learn the secrets of soil creatures, fungus, and decomposition through fun games and experiments.
How much: Free!
Pop-Up Audubon II
When: Saturdays & Sundays, 11am-4pm
Where: Peninsula, Prospect Park
What: This month, families can learn about birds and other animals that make their home near water, and add to the “nest” the park is weaving with natural materials.
How much: Free!
Two Bugs Are Better Than One
When: Saturday, April 18, 1pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Enjoy a live musical about a a scatter-brained moth and a studious worker bee who are tasked with tracking down a missing firefly.
How much: Free!
Earth Day
When: Sunday, April 19, 1-4pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Fishing lessons, raptors, spreading mulch, and a parade led by a band whose instruments are made of recycled materials!
How much: Free!
Spring Sprouts
When: Sunday, April 19, 2-4pm
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: Spring has sprung and it’s time to plant some flowers! Kids will get to make a small pot out of newspaper, fill it with soil, and plant an herb seed to take home.
How much: $3 suggested donation.
