Playtime In Park Slope: Upcoming Children’s Events

Looking for something fun to do with the whole family this week? From storytimes and crafts to live Irish dancing and a free guitar workshop, there are a lot of great kid-friendly events coming up in our area:

Babies & Books
When: Wednesday, March 18, 10am
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Kids ages birth to 18 months and their guardians can enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes.
How much: Free, but you must pick up a ticket the morning of the program at the Children’s reference desk.

Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, March 18, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score yours.

Story Craft
When: Thursday, March 17, 3:30pm
Where: Pacific Library, 25 4th Avenue
What: Kids up to age 5 are welcome to hear a story, then make a craft inspired by it.
How much: Free!

Ezra Jack Keats Bedtime Stories
When: Thursday, March 17, 7pm
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Librarians will read a book aloud to children ages 3-7 and lead singing, rhyming, and playing activities related to the themes and images of the book. At the end of each session, every child is given a free copy of one of Keats’ books to keep.
How much: Free!

Movie Screening: Annie
When: Friday, March 18, 3:30pm
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: It’s a hard-knock life! See the new version of the musical classic with Jamie Foxx and Quvenzhané Wallis.
How much: Free!

Free Guitar Workshops
When: Saturday, March 21, 11am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Whether you’re just getting started or you’re looking to brush up on the basics, this class will help you learn some guitar techniques. Anyone age 7 and up is welcome to join — just bring your instrument!
How much: Free, but space is limited, so be sure to arrive on time!

Niall O’Leary Irish Dance Troupe
When: Saturday, March 21, 1pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Keep celebrating St. Patrick’s Day through the weekend with this performance of live music featuring traditional and contemporary Irish dance moves.
How much: Free!

Nature Playtime: Zoo
When: Sunday, March 22, 10:30am-12:30pm
Where: Prospect Park Zoo, 450 Flatbush Avenue
What: The Prospect Park Alliance, Prospect Park Zoo, and Tinkergarten are teaming up (with a little help from the Disney Conservation Fund) to bring families creative play opportunities in the park’s natural areas. Every Sunday through April, those visiting the Prospect Park Zoo will be able to take part in Nature Playtime! in the native plant garden. Look for nature-inspired art, insect observation, playing with snow, scavenger hunts, and more. Want to try some Nature Playtime activities on your own? Download a free activity card here.
