Playtime In Park Slope: Upcoming Children’s Events
Looking for something fun to do with the whole family this week? From storytimes and crafts to free movie screenings and live music, there are a lot of great kid-friendly events coming up in our area:
Babies & Books
When: Wednesday, March 4, 10am
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Kids ages birth to 18 months and their guardians can enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes.
How much: Free, but you must pick up a ticket the morning of the program at the Children’s reference desk.
Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, March 4, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score yours.
Story Craft
When: Thursday, March 5, 3:30pm
Where: Pacific Library, 25 4th Avenue
What: Kids up to age 5 are welcome to hear a story, then make a craft inspired by it.
How much: Free!
Read Across America: “Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type”
When: Friday, March 6, 3pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Read Across America is celebrating the 15th anniversary of “Click! Clack! Moo! Cows that Type” by Brooklyn residents Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin. Join in a reading of this beloved children’s picture book and make a fun cow craft.

Movies @ The Library: Rio 2
When: Friday, March 6, 3:30pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Settle into the warmth of the library and enjoy a screening of this animated sequel that follows the birds Blu, Jewel, and their three kids as they take a music-filled journey through the Amazon.

Karen K And The Jitterbugs
When: Saturday, March 7, 1pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: A fun-filled afternoon of lively, interactive tunes from Karen K and her imaginary friends, the Jitterbugs: Bumble (Seth Connelly, guitar); Stinky (Dan Wheddle, drums); Hop (Eric Salt, bass); side-kick and best friend, Lightning Bug (Aaron Jones, banjo and everything else); and Lady Bug (Tracey O’Farrell, vocalist).

Once Upon A Cloud Storytime
When: Saturday, March 7, 2pm
Where: Barnes & Noble, 267 7th Avenue
What: Join in on this storytime with activities featuring Celeste, who wants to give her mother a special gift…but what?

Nature Playtime: Zoo
When: Sunday, March 8, 10:30am-12:30pm
Where: Prospect Park Zoo, 450 Flatbush Avenue
What: The Prospect Park Alliance, Prospect Park Zoo, and Tinkergarten are teaming up (with a little help from the Disney Conservation Fund) to bring families creative play opportunities in the park’s natural areas. Every Sunday through April, those visiting the Prospect Park Zoo will be able to take part in Nature Playtime! in the native plant garden. Look for nature-inspired art, insect observation, playing with snow, scavenger hunts, and more. Want to try some Nature Playtime activities on your own? Download a free activity card here. 90-Second Newbery Film Festival
When: Sunday, March 8, 2-4pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: So cool: See movies made by kids and teens based on Newbery-winning books — all just 90 seconds or less! Hosted by film festival founder and children’s author James Kennedy, with special co-host author Peter Lerangis.
