Playtime In Park Slope: Upcoming Children’s Events

Looking for something fun to do with the whole family this week? From a chance to ice skate with Clifford, to an interactive African dance performance, to Valentine crafts, there are a lot of great kid-friendly events coming up in our area:

Babies & Books
When: Wednesday, February 11, 10am
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Kids ages birth to 18 months and their guardians can enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes.
How much: Free, but you must pick up a ticket the morning of the program at the Children’s reference desk.

Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, February 11, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score yours.

Folk Sing-A-Long With Katy Stone
When: Wednesday, February 11, 11:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: After Rock With Adam wraps up, the library is getting folksy with Katy Stone. Geared toward children through age 5. As with the above performance, note that tickets are required, so be sure to arrive to the library early and secure your spot.
How much: Free.

Celebrate Black History Month: African Dancing And Folktales
When: Wednesday, February 11, 4pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: After school, make your way over to the library for more musical fun. This time, “master storyteller and dancer Caren Calder brings traditional African Folktales to life with movement and, song all to the beat of a live percussionist.” Open to kids of all ages.
How much: Free.

Storytime
When: Friday, February 13, 10am
Where: Postmark Cafe, 326 6th Avenue
What: A weekly storytime has returned to Postmark! Stop by every Friday for some free fun.
How much: Free, but there’s only space for 20 kids, so arrive early to ensure your spot.

Kids Create: Be My Valentine Craft Program
When: Friday, February 13, 3pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: A craft program for kids in grades K-6 where you’ll celebrate Valentine’s Day with a fun craft and music — participants are invited to bring CDs or iPods with their favorite tunes.
How much: Free!

I Love You Just Like This! Storytime
When: Saturday, February 14, 2pm
Where: Barnes & Noble, 267 7th Avenue
What: Join in on this Valentine’s Day storytime with activities featuring I Love You Just Like This!, where Elmo and his Sesame Street friends share just how many ways there are to say, “I love you.”
How much: Free!

Feraba African Rhythm Tap Duet
When: Saturday, February 14, 1pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Feraba — featuring Ibrahima Kolipe Camara, a native from Guinea, West Africa and Irene Koloseus, dancer and choreographer — celebrate Black History month by performing dances, rhythms, and songs from Guinea as well as honoring tap dance, an art form created in America with roots in African music and dance. It should be a fun, interactive performance, with African “shakers” and small drums provided for toddlers, youngsters, and their families.
How much: Free!

Figure 8 Play Date With Clifford The Big Red Dog
When: Sunday, February 15, 2-4pm
Where: Lakeside, Prospect Park
What: This series from WNET Kids Club THIRTEEN lets families join PBS characters — this week, Clifford the Big Red Dog — for some loops around the skating rink, as well as character-themed activities and arts and crafts.
How much: Skating admission is $8, skate rentals are $6; Kids Club members get free admission and $1 off skating rental.
