Playtime In Park Slope: Upcoming Children’s Events
Looking for something fun to do with the whole family this week? From bedtime stories to puppet-making, from a magic show to enjoying fun in nature and more, there are a lot of great kid-friendly events coming up in our area:
Babies & Books
When: Wednesday, November 19, 10am & 10:30am
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Kids ages birth to 18 months and their guardians can enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes.
How much: Free, but you must pick up a ticket the morning of the program at the Children’s reference desk.
Kings Bay Y Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, November 19, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score yours.
Ezra Jack Keats Bedtime Stories
When: Thursday, November 20, 7pm
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Librarians will read a book aloud to children ages 3-7 and lead singing, rhyming, and playing activities related to the themes and images of the book. At the end of each session, every child is given a free copy of one of Keats’ books to keep.
How much: Free!
Storytime
When: Friday, November 21, 10am
Where: Postmark Cafe, 326 6th Avenue
What: A weekly storytime has returned to Postmark! Stop by every Friday for some free fun.
How much: Free, but there’s only space for 20 kids, so arrive early to ensure your spot.
Explore & Create: Arts And Crafts
When: Friday, November 21, 4pm
Where: Pacific Library, 25 4th Avenue
What: A weekly, free drop-in program where kids and teens can roll up their sleeves and explore their artistic side.
How much: Free!
Story Play
When: Saturday, November 22, 10am
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Children from birth to age five and their caregivers are invited to hear a story and play with toys.
How much: Free!
Puppet Making And Holiday Sing-Along
When: Saturday, November 22, 1pm
Where: Barnes & Noble, 267 7th Avenue
What: Kids ages four and up are invited to make a puppet and sing holiday songs with store staff and their new puppet friends.
How much: Free, but arrive early as space and supplies are limited.
Magic Of Amore: Extra! Extra! Read All About It!
When: Saturday, November 22, 1pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Master magician Amore will dazzle kids and adults alike with tricks, mind-reading, and more to celebrate the magic of Thanksgiving.
How much: Free!
History In Your Hands: Paper Quilting
When: Saturdays and Sundays in November, 2-4pm
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: Spend a cozy afternoon at Lefferts Historic House this month making your own paper quilt collage to add to their community patchwork quilt.
How much: $3 suggested donation.
Family Dance Party
When: Saturday, November 22, 2:30pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Enjoy creative movement while exploring the library’s music collection when families are invited to bop, shake, and shimmy with their neighbors.
How much: Free, but tickets are required and will be distributed at the reference desk; space is limited, so arrive early.
Nature Playtime
When: Sunday, November 23, 12-3pm
Where: Zucker Natural Exploration Area, Prospect Park
What: Fun, safe, and creative ways for your family to explore and play in nature together. Guides will lead seasonal nature play activities in outdoor locations around Prospect Park and the Prospect Park Zoo, and participating families will receive a Nature Playtime! Park Guide to help inspire more nature play.
How much: Free!
