Playtime In Park Slope: Upcoming Children’s Events
Looking for some fun things to do with the whole family this week? From storytimes and sing-alongs to a chance to get up close and personal with some raptors in the park, there’s a lot of cool stuff coming up in the neighborhood. Details on those and more kid-friendly events:
Babies & Books
When: Wednesday, October 1, 10am & 10:30am
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Kids ages birth to 18 months and their guardians can enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes.
How much: Free, but you must pick up a ticket the morning of the program at the Children’s reference desk.
Kings Bay Y Rock With Adam
When: Wednesday, October 1, 10:30am
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: Are you ready to rock? Neighborhood kids are definitely in for a treat as guitarist Adam Blotner plays some of his favorite tunes.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), so be sure to arrive early to score yours.
Story Craft
When: Thursday, October 2, 3:30pm
Where: Pacific Library, 25 4th Avenue
What: Kids up to age 5 are welcome to hear a story, then make a craft.
How much: Free!
Storytime
When: Friday, September 26, 10am
Where: Postmark Cafe, 326 6th Avenue
What: A weekly storytime has returned to Postmark! Stop by every Friday for some free fun.
How much: Free, but there’s only space for 20 kids, so arrive early to ensure your spot.
DIY: Creative Writing
When: Saturday, October 4, 11:45am
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Know a burgeoning Burrows or a prospective Pratchett? This workshop will help kids ages 7-14 develop creative writing skills and maybe even put together a poem or two.
How much: Free!
Race Around The Farmyard
When: Saturdays in October, 2-4pm
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: Get moving with the whole family in potato sack races, spoon races, stilts and other old-fashioned games!
How much: $3 suggested donation.
Raptor Fest
When: Sunday, October 6, 12-3pm
Where: Peninsula, Prospect Park
What: The Prospect Park Alliance and Urban Park Rangers present the annual Raptor Fest, where you can learn all about the majestic birds like hawks, falcons, owls, and other birds of prey, which will be on hand for flight demonstrations and more.
