Playtime In Park Slope: Upcoming Children’s Events
Animals opening presents, Santa, gingerbread house construction, crafts at the library, and many more family-friendly events coming up this week in the area:
Babies & Books
When: Wednesday, December 18, 10am & 10:30am
Where: Central Library, Youth Wing, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Bring your kids up to 18 months old to enjoy books, songs, and rhymes.
How much: Free, but space is limited. Pick up a ticket at the Children’s Reference Desk on the morning of the program; call 718-230-2117 for more info.
Explore & Create: Arts And Crafts For Kids
When: Friday, December 20, 4pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: A weekly, free drop-in program where kids can roll up their sleeves and explore their artistic side.
How much: Free!
A Christmas Story
Where: BAM Rose Cinemas, 651 Fulton Street
When: Saturday, December 21, 11am
What: Share this perennial holiday favorite with the next generation of movie fans (just note that it’s rated PG).
How much: $9 general admission, $8 cinema club members, $7 children 12 and under
Presents To The Animals
When: Saturday, December 21 & Sunday, December 22, 11am & 3;30pm
Where: Prospect Park Zoo, 450 Flatbush Avenue
What: We can’t think of anything more adorable and in the holiday spirit than watching animals at the Prospect Park Zoo open presents! Stop by on either/both days to watch meerkats tear open gifts at 11am, and to watch mongooses try to adorably navigate the wrapping paper at 3:30pm.
How much: Adults $8, children (3–12) $5, seniors (65+) $6, children under 3 free
See Santa!
When: Saturday, December 21
Where: Two locations
What: The free Downtown Brooklyn Holiday Trolley will whisk families around to six different spots, with a stop in our area at Flatbush Ave and 4th Ave, with Santa along for the ride, from 12-6pm. Because he’s magic, he’ll also be at Du Jour Bakery (365 5th Avenue) for those last minute holiday wishes, thanks to the 5th Avenue BID.
How much: Free!
Gingerbread Making Party
When: Sunday, December 22, 10am, 12pm & 2pm
Where: Hootenanny Art House, 426 15th Street
What: Possibly the most delicious event of the year, as The Farm on Adderley presents its third annual gingerbread house making parties. Kids of all ages are invited to build a pre-fab, all-natural gingerbread house and make it fancy with all kinds of good-for-you treats (no corn-syrup or artificially colored candy, only dried fruit and natural candy).
