Looking for some fun stuff to do with the kids while you’re all home for the Thanksgiving break? Here are some events going on in or near the neighborhood:
DIY: Makerspace Wednesdays Tech Edition
When: Wednesday, November 27, 4pm
Where: Central Library, Grand Lobby, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Kids in the 6th grade and up can work on Maker projects like 3D printing and Lego Robotics.
How much: Free!
Nature On The Go!
When: Friday, November 29, 2pm
Where: Audubon Center in Prospect Park
What: Children and families can take a guided tour to areas near the Audubon Center, where you can be active and learn about the nature that’s all around us.
How much: Free!
The Red Balloon & White Mane
When: Saturday, November 30, 11am
Where: BAM Rose Cinemas, 30 Lafayette Ave
What: See a double feature of the enchanting children’s films by French director Albert Lamorisse. In The Red Balloon, a young boy discovers a stray balloon that seems to have a mind of its own, while White Mane is a fable about the taming of a beautiful wild stallion.
How much: $9 general admission, $8 cinema club members, $7 children 12 and under
Festive Fifth
When: Saturday, November 30, 6:30-9pm
Where: 5th Avenue from between Dean and 18th Streets
What: See a tree-lighting ceremony, drink free hot chocolate, meet Santa, and support local shops on Small Business Saturday.
How much: Free!
Celebrate Hanukkah At The Brooklyn Children’s Museum
When: Sunday, December 1, 11:30am
Where: Brooklyn Children’s Museum, 145 Brooklyn Avenue
What: Two programs run concurrently: kids 5 and under can discover the traditions behind the special holiday and make a Hanukkah themed gift bag to take home; and kids 5 and up will hear holiday stories and share warm thoughts during this cold season by creating greeting cards to send to family and friends.
How much: Free with admission ($9 per person, free for children under 1)
Winter On A Flatbush Farm
When: Sunday, December 1, 1-4pm
Where: Lefferts Historic House in Prospect Park
What: Learn how to make a patchwork quilt, watch a master spinster spin wool thread, and enjoy Dutch treats made at an outdoor hearth from a Lefferts family recipe. Be sure to be around at 3pm, when we hear old St. Nicholas will stop by!
How much: $3 suggested donation
