Haunted Halloween Carnival 2013 from Puppetry Arts

Halloween fun gets into full swing this weekend, but before then, learn about the gifted and talented program and meet a Park Slope author!

Gifted & Talented Info Session
When: Wednesday, October 23, 6-8pm
Where: Park Slope Education Complex/MS 88, 544 7th Avenue
What: If your family is interested in the city’s Gifted & Talented Program for children in grades K through 3, learn more and ask questions at the only Brooklyn information session scheduled before the November 8 request for testing deadline.
How much: Free

Jane Kelley, The Desperate Adventures of Zeno and Alya
When: Wednesday, October 23, 7-8pm
Where: Community Bookstore, 143 7th Avenue
What: The local author, who shared some of the inspiration for her new book with us, will speak with kids about her latest middle-grade novel about an orphaned African grey parrot and a sick young girl.
How much: Free!

Puppetry Arts’ Haunted Halloween Carnival
When: Saturday, October 26, 11am-4pm
Where: 1st Street Recreation Center of PS 372
What: Spooky puppet and mask making crafts, face painting, carnival games, raffles and giveaways, a visit with the Star Wars characters, and more. The first 200 children will get a free trick-or-treat bag filled with goodies from local merchants and more.
How much: Free, but $2-4 for some activities

Halloween Haunted Walk & Houlihan Lokey Halloween Carnival
When: Saturday, October 26, 12-3pm
Where: Prospect Park’s Nethermead and Lookout Hill
What: Watch out for zombies, wolf men, headless horsemen, witches, and more (which could be scary for younger children, so use your discretion) as you walk to the carnival, where you’ll find games, pony rides, face painting, and treats.
How much: Free!

The Made Up Musical
When: Saturday, October 26, 1pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Army Plaza
What: Yellow Sneaker puppet company presents an interactive, musical puppet show that will keep you on your toes, since you tell them what happens next. Incorporating creative visual slapstick as well as witty wordplay, the story changes based on audience suggestions.
How much: Free!

Children’s Fall Festival
When: Sunday, October 27, 2-4pm
Where: 6th Avenue Triangle, at Flatbush/St Marks
What: Kids can come in costume and enjoy a puppet show, face painting, pumpkin decorating and giveaways, a rock climbing wall, singalongs, games, raffles, and more.
How much: Free!
