Piece Of Velvet Will Bring New Bites And Favorites To Smorgasburg This Weekend
First Fort Greene and Harlem, then Coney Island, and now Smorgasburg — Piece Of Velvet (POV) is on a cakey roll!
As of this Saturday, April 4, the local bakery (708 Fulton Street) known (even by Zagat!) for its red velvet cupcakes, cakes, cookies, and more will have a booth at Brooklyn’s hallmark food flea market in Williamsburg (on Saturdays at 90 Kent Avenue) and DUMBO (on Sundays at 320 Furman Street).
“It’s a great opportunity [because] the more we’re seen, the better,” said Michael Morgan, managing director for POV. “Smorgasburg is a great organization, so it’s a win-win for us and them.”
In addition to “leading with our best foot forward, so red velvet,” Morgan told us that Smorgasburg customers can also look forward to”test[s of] things we’re looking to bring to market.”
This includes the Piece Of Velvet Munchie — a smaller, bite-sized version of the cupcakes. New store products may also eventually make their way to the outdoor market, as well.
“At the store, we’ll be introducing new products like a cake shake and waffle cones in red velvet, vanilla, and chocolate flavors,” said Morgan. “That starts in one week (first full week of April).”
Also new is an initiative called the Cake Avenger, where you can nominate someone to receive a free cupcake and card for whatever occasion you want.
