Pick Up Autumn Treats For Fall Holidays At The PS 154 Greenmarket

Breads, pastries, and pie — oh my!

Sunday’s PS 154 Greenmarket in Windsor Terrace features Baker’s Bounty, a family-owned bakery that opened in 1978. A farm-to-market bakery, Baker’s Bounty sources its ingredients from local farmers and its daily deliciousness is baked in Linden, New Jersey. This nearby location bodes well for snatching up fresh baked goodies for Hanukkah and Thanksgiving, both happening next week!

Baker’s Bounty brings a variety of fresh breads to the market, including both peasant round and classic style Italian breads that are baked with three different types of flour: unbleached white, stone-ground whole wheat, and semolina. There’s also pumpernickel boule, seedless rye, and sourdough baguette breads available.

Other autumn treats offered include apple cinnamon, cranberry oat bran, or whole grain apple cranberry muffins. Coffee cake, scones, or zucchini loaves — high in iron — also compete to win you over for breakfast. The bakery also makes pumpkin loaf and carrot cake in the fall.

But really, at this time of year, it’s all about the pie — right? Baker’s Bounty fresh baked pie line-up for the fall includes apple, apple cranberry, cherry pie, coconut custard, pecan, pumpkin, and sugar-free apple.

If you’re concerned about preserving your pie for Hanukkah or Thanksgiving, it’s fine to freeze a fresh baked pie. It’s recommended to place the pie in the freezer and let it freeze completely. Then wrap the pie, or place it in a freezer bag, and put it back in the freezer. However, be warned that a custard or a cream pie will not freeze successfully. (A fresh baked pie that’s been frozen is good for up to four months in the freezer, according to Betty Crocker.) To thaw, take the pie out early in the morning and let it sit out on the countertop during the day to slowly bring it to room temperature.

The Windsor Terrace-PS 154 Greenmarket is open from 9am to 3pm every Sunday until December 22. Baker’s Bounty line-up of fresh baked goods are available only as long as they last, so get there early!
