Photos: Awesome Clouds Dazzle Local Residents Last Friday

An impressive cloud formation, which resembled a hellish scene straight out of Dante Alighieri’s “Divine Comedy,” hovered over Southern Brooklyn last Friday and, apparently, it was impressive enough that we received quite a few reader-submitted photos documenting the tropospheric phenomenon.

I’m no cloud expert, but after comparing the photos we received to a graphic chart of cloud classifications, I will hazard a guess that these babies were the misbegotten meteorological crossbreed between shelf (a type of arcus cloud) and cumulonimbus clouds.

Thanks to Kathleen Higgins, George Burshteyn, Lily Diamond and Mike Cipolla for submitting the photos.
