Photo Of The Day: Place With The Faces

We seem to have stumped you, but we can’t really blame anyone for not guessing the site of Friday’s photo, since the guys in the photo aren’t, as of this afternoon, even there anymore. However, a number of portraits are still up on one of the roll-down gates on the vacant space that once held a lumber and building supplies warehouse at 80 St Marks Place, just off 4th Avenue.

The portraits are part of Inside Out, a project by JR that “gives everyone the opportunity to share their portrait and make a statement for what they stand for. It is a global platform for people to share their untold stories and transform messages of personal identity into works of public art.” So far, he’s taken photos of more than 120,000 people from more than 108 countries. In 2011, some portraits were affixed to local stoops.

The warehouse, which has been empty for years but housed the lumber company at least as far back as 1972, is now available for rent through Ideal Properties.
