Today’s Pet Spotlight is on Tootsie Roll, a two-year-old terrier mix. She’s currently being fostered by Amanda Miller, who lives in Fort Greene with her dog Henry, whom she adopted from the Brooklyn Animal Resource Coalition in Williamsburg two years ago.

We ran into Tootsie Roll and Henry while they were out on a walk in Fort Greene Park. Tootsie Roll was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Alabama by Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue. According to Miller, Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue saves dogs from rural shelters in the South that have high rates of euthanasia. The volunteer organization makes sure each dog is healthy before the dog travels north to stay with a foster family before adoption.

Miller has fostered Tootsie Roll for the past month. “She’s a great dog,” said Miller, an editor at Scholastic who has fostered 12 dogs with Badass. “She’s friendly, energetic and loves people.”  Tootsie Roll had to skip an adoption event earlier this month due to a cold, but she’s healthy now – back to chasing squirrels in the park.

The 18-pound mutt gets along with other dogs and has been spayed, Miller said. She’s also been house-trained and can be left alone in an apartment or house without barking. If you’re interested in adopting her, contact Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue at adopt@badassbk.com.
