Permits Filed For Apartment Building In Rare Moment Of Bath Beach Development
In a rare moment, Bath Beach is seeing residential development.
Applications call for a four-story building at 121 Bay 26th Street, between Bath and Benson avenues, to feature six units spread over 7,093 square feet. Each unit is slated to be 910 square feet, and five off-street, open parking spaces will be reserved for residents.
The lot was previously home to a two-story frame home that was demolished last year. A variety of complaints on the Department of Buildings website suggest the home was damaged in Hurricane Sandy, although it is unclear why it was demolished.
The architect of record is Queens-based Fang Architect. The location is a short walk from the 20th Avenue D Train.
The permit represents a rare moment of development in Bath Beach, residential or otherwise. While the neighborhood has been subject to massively changing demographics in recent years, construction has been infrequent, especially when compared to north and central Brooklyn neighborhoods.
