Pedestrian In Serious Condition After Being Struck By Car On 4th Avenue

A woman was taken to the hospital in serious condition after being struck by a car on 4th Avenue this afternoon.

The FDNY tells us that the 46-year-old woman was hit on 4th Avenue at Union Street at about 12:40pm on Wednesday. They say they responded and transported her to Lutheran Hospital with a serious head wound.

A report on Twitter from user @johnjayinnyc says it was a hit and run, and that someone was able to get a photo of the car’s license plate and provide that to police, but we’ve been unable to confirm those details with the authorities.

UPDATE 3pm: The NYPD tells us the woman was in the crosswalk when she was struck by a Hyundai Elantra‎ that they say ran a red light. The car fled the scene northbound on 4th Ave, and they are currently searching for the driver.

We will update this post as we learn more.
