Pedestrian and Motorcyclist Dead in Separate Crashes on Brooklyn Roads

BENSONHURST – An 87-year-old man was struck and killed by a Mack truck as he crossed the street in Bensonhurst yesterday, police confirmed.

The incident took place Thursday, September 27, around 2:50 pm, at the intersection of 86th Street and 21st Avenue, said police.

According to a preliminary investigation, Carmine Bruzzese was crossing 86th Street north to south in the crosswalk in front of the stopped truck. When the light turned green, the driver pulled forward into the intersection and struck Bruzzese, said police.

Responding EMS transported the victim to NYU Langone hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, said police. The 43-year-old driver of the truck remained at the scene, but so far, no arrests have been made, said police.

An investigation into the incident is underway, said police.


WILLIAMSBURG – Later that afternoon, a motorcyclist was killed on the Williamsburg Bridge after running into the car in front of him, said police.

Around 4:25, the 33-year-old victim was driving across the bridge heading into Brooklyn when he struck the rear of a BMW sedan driven by a 40-year-old man, suffering severe injuries to his body, said police.

EMS transported the victim to Woodhull Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the sedan remained on the scene, but there are currently no arrests.

An investigation into the crash is underway, said police. The name of the deceased has been withheld pending family notification.
