Paulie Malignaggi Brings The Bensonhurst To Barclays

Ask and ye shall receive. Bensonhurst boxer Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi will make his Barclays debut on October 20 against Pablo Cesar “El Demoledor” Cano for Malignaggi’s WBA welterweight title.

This is Malignaggi’s first fight in his hometown.

He’s has been training in Gleason’s Gym (77 Front Street) since his arrival back in New York on Monday. He’s been living in Los Angeles for the past few years, according to ESPN.Go.

“I’m tired of training,” said Malignaggi. “I want to fight.”

His opponent Cano isn’t afraid to admit that he’s got some apprehensions going into the fight. He’s going for a knockout against Malignaggi, whose quick moves and ability to take a punch have made him the fan favorite.

“I know that I would have to knock him out to avoid a bad decision, since he is from [New York] and the public will favor him. It doesn’t scare me to fight in the house of my opponent, because ultimately only Paul and myself will be in the ring. He has quick combinations and good leg movement, so I have to fight smart,” he said to Boxing Scene.

The main event that evening at Barclays features “unbeaten Danny ‘Swift’ Garcia defending his WBA Super, WBC and Ring Magazine Super Lightweight World Championships against the man he defeated to win the WBC belt, legendary Mexican warrior and future Hall of Famer Erik ‘El Terrible’ Morales.”

“I expect Brooklyn to be in the house, that’s for sure,” said the Magic Man to Bad Left Hook.

Let’s see if Brooklyn can take it home.
