PROSPECT PARK – BRIC announced on Thursday that legendary diva Patti LaBelle will kick off the 41st BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival season with a free concert at the Prospect Park Bandshell on Tuesday, June 4.
LaBelle will take the stage following BRIC’s annual opening night fundraiser held in conjunction with REVEL, an immersive artist-driven experience. REVEL will be hosted by Franchesca Ramsey and Patrick Kondas from the podcast Last Name Basis featured on the BRIC RADIO network. Fashion designer Nanette Lepore will be the official fashion partner of the event that will honor BRIC’s outgoing Board Chair, Hilary Ackermann.
Ackermann leaves BRIC after 13 years with the organization, during which she worked to expand BRIC’s programming, education initiatives, and community engagement. Ackerman helped to launch several new programs at BRIC including the BRIC JazzFest, the BRIC Biennial, and the Emmy Award-winning BRIC TV.
“We are thrilled to kick off our summer concert series at the Prospect Park Bandshell with R&B icon Patti LaBelle and celebrate the extraordinary leadership of our outgoing Board Chair Hilary Ackermann at our first ever REVEL. This year’s festival will open with a renewed sense of energy and commitment to the artistry that defines Brooklyn,” BRIC President Kristina Newman-Scott said in a release announcing the event.
REVEL will offer guests an immersive experience along with a cocktail hour, a shared outdoor meal at Prospect Park, reserved seating for LaBelle’s performance, and access to the after party. Tickets for REVEL start at $750. Proceeds go toward helping BRIC keep Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival programs free and accessible to all.
The BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival is the organization’s flagship performing arts program.
