Parking Meters Becoming Bike Racks On 5th Ave

We spotted several of the area’s old parking meters with their heads chopped off around 5th Avenue and 15th Street on Wednesday, and the DOT confirms that this is a continuation of the citywide project to convert 12,000 meters to bike racks.

7th Avenue saw their meters transformed in August of this year.

In order to facilitate these transformations, the DOT asks that, beginning today, September 25, residents do not attach their bikes to the old parking meters.

There were still a handful of bikes chained to tagged meters this afternoon, so if your wheels are there, make sure to move them ASAP.
