Park Slope Weekend Events Spotlight: July 2-5

There are plenty of fun things to do in Park Slope this Independence Day weekend! You can have some family fun in Prospect Park, Grab some barbeque and listen to some Americana music, or take in a burlesque show at The Bell House. There’s something for everyone.

Rachelle Garniez
When: Thursday, July 2, 8pm
Where: Barbés, 376 9th Street at 6th Avenue
What: Rachelle Garniez writes and performs darkly optimistic story-stongs and accompanies herself lon a variety of instruments including accordion, piano, claviola, guitar, and plastic bells.
How much: $10 (strongly) suggested donation.

Lola Star’s Dreamland Roller Disco
When: Friday, July 3, 7:30pm
Where: LeFrak Center, Lakeside
What: Celebrate Saturday Night Fever this Friday at Lakeside, where Dreamland Roller Disco is all about those glorious disco hits. Note that admission is restricted to guests ages 21 and older. For more information, or to buy tickets in advance, visit the Dreamland website.
How much: $18 (includes admission and skate rental).

Friday Night Jamz With DJ Bengey
When: Friday, July 3, 10pm
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street near 5th Avenue
What: ArtistCome take a load off from the long work week and enjoy the holiday weekend! Listen to your favorite jams from old school to new school! Don’t forget the amazing drinks!

Independence Day Activities
When: Saturday, July 4, 12-5pm
Where: Prospect Park
What: Celebrate Independence Day with the whole family in Prospect Park. There are activities all afternoon at the Audubon Center and the Lefferts Historic House. Learn about the Bald Eagle and view a reproduction of the Declaration of Independence. Saturday is also opening day for the Carousel!
How much: Free.

They Hate Us For Our Freedom Party
When: Saturday, July 4, All Day
Where: Threes Brewing, 333 Douglass Street
What: Grab some barbecue and enjoy some Americana music in the backyard at Threes Brewing. Performances by The Tumble and Ivy, Beck, and Neill. Burgers, dogs, pulled pork, ribs, deviled eggs, watermelon, potato salad, and corn on the cob by Dover/Battersby. As well as drink specials all day long.

Wasabassco Presents America F*ck Yeah! #5
When: Saturday, July 4, 8pm
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street at 2nd Avenue
What: Revel in your independence with BBQ, Beer, Brooklyn, & Burlesque at The Bell House’s fifth annual celebration of the best this country has to offer. Starring Evelyn Vinyl, Hazel Honeysuckle, Jezebel Express, Pinkie Special, Poison Ivory, Sapphire Jones, Stache Novak, and Sydni Deveraux. Free admission if you come dressed as Wonder Woman.

Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks
When: Saturday, July 4, 9pm
Where: East River
What: Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks are in the East River again this year so we can see them from Brooklyn. Check out the official viewing area in Brooklyn Bridge Park or from a rooftop in the neighborhood.
How much: Free.

Chris Gethard: Career Suicide
When: Sunday, July 5, 12-6pm
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street near 5th Avenue
What: AntiqueChris Gethard performs an hour of stand up focusing on suicide, alcoholism, and all the other funniest parts of life. You may know Chris from his cult hit talk show “The Chris Gethard Show,” which originally airs on MNN public access television, or as Ilana’s boss Todd on “Broad City.”
