Tropical Vortex Mondays
When: Monday, July 27, 9:30pm
Where: Barbés, 376 9th Street
What:Every Monday, Tropical Vortex showcases bands and DJs who specialize in variations on Tropical sounds from Latinolandia and elsewhere. This week features Bulla en el Barrio led by Barranquilla native Carolina Oliveros, Bulla en el Barrio explores the Bailes Cantados of Bullerengue music. Carolina belongs to a younger generation of cantadoras who are deeply connected to tradition but also strongly influenced by classical music, jazz and rock.

Death Cafe
When: Tuesday, July 28, 6pm
Where: Morbid Anatomy Museum, 424A 3rd Avenue
What: English Creative Director and Funeral Planner Louise de Winter hosts a discussion on all matters of death, dying, life and living in a safe and relaxed environment over a cup of tea and a slice of cake. The objective of the Death Cafe is “to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives.” It’s all about an interesting, unstructured conversation – open and free-flowing with no specific agenda

Soft Spot: A Comedy Show
When: Tuesday, July 28, 8:30pm
Where: Threes Brewing, 333 Douglass Street
What: Come enjoy a night of comedy hosted by Claudia Cogan and Brendan McLaughlin, featuring Mike Lawrence, Liz Miele, Joel Kim Booster, and George Gordon.
How much: $5.
Plaza Swing Series: Nu D’Lux
When: Wednesday, July 29, 6:30pm
Where: Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: The Funky Guajiros return with their unmistakable sound and energy. Incorporating Afro-Cuban and Afro-Puerto Rican vocal stylings, the Cuban Tres Guitar, Violin, Trombone, Trumpet and a modern-groove rhythm section of New York’s finest (conga, bongo and timbales), the group is able to travel from the sweetest Son to amped up and funky modern Cuban numbers with astounding ease and dedication. Salsa Rueda dance lessons are at 6:30pm, band starts at 7pm.

How I Learned You Don’t Have To Go Home But You Can’t Stay Here
When: Wednesday, July 29, 7:30pm
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street
What: This month, come hear stories about bars, shows, meeting up, closing down, getting kicked out, the end of things, the last person at the party, the pursuit of fun, going somewhere and then going somewhere else, and whatever other amazing stuff we come up with that may or may not be loosely connected to the theme. Featuring Ophira Eisenberg, Nancy Balbirer, Lynn Bixenspan, Kate Greathead, Isaac Oliver, and Blaise Allysen Kearsley.

Summer Movie Under The Stars
When: Wednesday, July 29, 7-11pm
Where: Prospect Park, Long Meadow North
What: Nothing says summer like movies in the park! Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams and the Prospect Park Alliance present screenings of family films every Wednesday on Long Meadow. Entertainment begins at 7pm, and the movies will start after sunset. This week’s film is Where the Wild Things Are.
